My favorite holiday has to be Thanksgiving

Not only is it a holiday about good food and time with family but the holiday takes place in my Favorite season, the fall. Not only do I love spending quality time with my family and friends, but I love the food of the season; pumpkin and cinnamon, sweet potatoes, cornbread and sausage stuffing…it’s so delicious..  Also, the fact that there is a holiday out there that allows us to set time aside to be with family and to remember what we are grateful for; that is what I love about the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Fire safety is so important

  • December 29, 2010 9:24 am

Fire safety is so important, especially in the winter in the Northeast. Every year it seems you see on the news someone burns their house down because of space heaters. If not a space heater, then a candle left unattended. It is amazing how common of an occurrence this is. I believe one of the best things anyone can do is to purchase foam fire extinguishers for the home, and to learn how to use them. That way even if a terrible and thoughtless mistake is made with a space heater or a candle, perhaps the fire could be put out before everything is lost.

Baking

  • December 27, 2010 6:16 pm

Today I baked two batches of apples crisp for the neighbors and then delivered to them in the morning, then I went for a four-mile walk, came home and stretched, took a shower, called a few friends, did some homework and paid the bills.  Then I did a load of laundry, during which I wrote a paper for school, went to the grocery store, and on the on the way home bought gas.  I also cleaned the bathroom, watch an hour of TV and figured out what to get my stepbrother for Christmas, and called my mom to talk about the holidays.

Appreciating what you have

The older I get the more I understand what it means to want. I’ve seen friends so poor they’ve almost ended up on the streets. I’ve had close friends pass away and fall prey to drugs and poor lifestyles. When I was young I knew all this existed but it seemed so distant. Reality kind of hit me smack in the face. It’s kind of hard to deal with, but yet I am really thankful for what I have. It’s so hard to find a job right now and I’m glad that I’ve been able to have one for as long as I do. It may be in a restaurant but I don’t care.

IL

  • December 21, 2010 6:12 pm

IL is windy and wet. There has been little to no snow this year. The only thing we’ve had is freezing rain and hail. I do have to appreciate that it hasn’t made driving conditions that bad though. I’ll take this any day over snow. Chicago truly is the windy city. On the drive into Chicago you’ll see trucks blown into ditches on a bad day. Despite this Chicago is fun to visit all year around because there is plenty of wonderful indoor shopping that will keep you occupied.

My uniform

I wore my uniform and my pajamas today. I wear a white button down shirt, black pants, black apron, black socks and black shoes. Along with a hideous tie. It pays the bills though so I don’t complain. I’d love to be able to choose what I wore to work and have it be something really nice. But I’m not at a place in my life where I can do something like that. Fortunately I love my job and will stay there as long as I need to. It’s a great environment and I’m happy there

Penn and Teller

  • December 15, 2010 6:09 pm

I enjoy dry shows full of sarcasm and Penn & Teller BS fully embodies this. I love watching their criticisms even if I don’t necessarily agree with them. They are full of witty remarks and video footage. Not only is it entertaining I also learn a lot. It’s easy to point out fraud, but not always so easy to explain why. It’s unfortunate the show is no longer on the air, but I watch it frequently. It’s one of those shows that reminds you not to take life so seriously.

Work and Play

I have very similar routines every day that I follow. I have to get up at 8am on weekdays to get my daughter to school and if I’m working 1st shift I’ll usually be at work at 11am. If I’m working 2nd shift I’ll go in at around 4. Otherwise I’ll sleep in and spend some time on the computer and watching tv. Once everyone else gets off work I’ll go out shopping or spend some time playing with my daughter. I have a good life, although it can get kind of boring. What matters most in life is being happy and at the end of the day if I had a good conversation I’m a happy person.

My first concert

  • December 7, 2010 6:07 pm

The very first concert I ever went to was a Weezer concert. I was so excited to go down to the Xcel Energy center. As soon as Weezer started  my friend and I jumped over the railing into the pit. I was too nervous and too small to get all the way to the front like she did. So, I crowd served over everyone and on my way down to the front where the bouncers made me run back the way I came. I had the time of my life and will never forget that night. My dad picked us up on the street and we went to Mcdonalds on the way home.

As I get older I find myself doing less between work and being a full time mother and wife. I love music so I try to find opportunities to go see live musicians play around town. The bars host a series of open mic nights that attract several talented people. A few of my best friends go out and partake in this. It’s a fun way to get out and be an adult and enjoy life in an adult way. I get sick of just going to work and coming home. It gets boring. I also make a point to go to a couple concerts a year, including Lollapalooza.
