Throw a few .22 rounds onto a bonfire and you will find out that the result is not terribly dramatic – the case travels further than the bullet. He should have told you to have a small locked box on the wall with separate locks from your double-locked gun cabinet. You put the rifles in the big box. You put the ammo and the bolts from the rifles in the small box. You thus have three keys – which I personally put in my safe – so I’ve only the safe key to carry. Throw a few .22 rounds onto a bonfire and you will find out that the result is not terribly dramatic – the case travels further than the bullet. The separate locked box can be formed by a top box on top of the main box. If the safe is heated up sufficiently in a fire it will go off like a bomb, whereas if the loose ammo gets hot it will simply “cook off”. Use a home fire alarm for safety.
