Space is more important than stuff

  • June 29, 2011 2:53 pm

I share a 700 square foot apartment with my college bound wife and fat cat. Shoe horning two peoples worth of stuff into a one bedroom apartment has not been easy and is a matter of constant compromise. In one apartment we had a large bedroom but no kitchen. A living room and no porch. At some point it would be nice to just finally have enough space. She and I have low prerequisites for what that space should be populated with or it’s amenities. It would be enough to even just have an extra bedroom for mutual office space. If money were of no object we would just ask for enough room to breathe.

Boredom? What’s boredom?

Bored and tired Kate-as-Angel at Mardi Gras 20...

I find it unusual to ever actually end up getting bored. I’m saturated by self-imposed distractions and an inner sense that I’m always forgetting to do something. As something of super-geek I’m surrounded by gizmos and ambitions for things to do with them. I suppose when a fraction of boredom is about to occur I’m already turning to one of those devices and building a website, writing an article, or planning a new project. That or I’m already working on some project or obligation I have to work or a family member. If I’m bored I’m being lazy.

Existential Atheism Can Be a Drag – Thank God for Hedonistic Narcissism

  • June 22, 2011 2:52 pm

To be honest, I’m not entirely certain what keeps me motivated daily other than simple self interest. I guess that’s enough, even if it feels as though it lacks nobility. There are people and things I love about my own life that get me out of bed in the morning. Being inspired by my wife and seeking to repay that debt through loving her. Even something as simple as time with the cat makes a day worthwhile. My interest in continuing in life longterm I suppose comes from some sense that I have yet to contribute to the world in the manner that I’m capable of. The ultimate fulfillment of whatever my potential actually is.

The internet is creating a global consciousness

While every contemporary invention exists only because of the ones that went before it (there’d be no internet without the printing press) I think that the internet is the most astronomically important development yet. Mythologies and histories were limited to tribes in our infancy and that divergence of personal history created great barriers in communication between opposing groups. Now because of the speed at which information is transmitted there is a shared global consciousness that is developing among every group, tribe, district, and division in the world. Old barriers and divisions are there but they’re thinner, weaker, and slowly dissolving. I think much of that is due to the experience we can now share because communication takes a fraction of second.

Companion of Fire Fighters

  • June 17, 2011 2:21 pm

Many hazards are faced by people in daily life and one such dangerous disaster is Fire. And fighters play an important role in the rescue of people from this danger that is extensively trained to combat emergencies. They also help in the rescue of people from major accidents, burning buildings, trapped victims of earthquakes and other critical situations. These fire fighters extinguish the fire with water or fire retardant like foam through the use of high pressure hose called fire hose spares. A fire hose is normally attached to the fire engine and in latest buildings; it is attached directly to the plumbing systems through a standpipe to be useful in emergency situations. The other use of a fire hose is to control crowd when they go beyond control in protest rallies.

To Infinity!

If I had the ability to time travel, I would love to move into the future. I am grateful for the experience I have had in my past, but I wonder what will happen in years to come. Rather than wait around for a single lifetime, I would use my years of life to travel forward in time, experience all of humanity’s discoveries and learning what becomes of history. Today’s developments with technology seem so fantastic, I can only imagine what is to come. As we get better and better at crafting technology, it is only a matter of time before the next big thing arrives. For this generation, it was the arrival of the internet. Who knows how this global network has influenced future inventors. I would like to see what today’s minds have in store for us in the future.

Fire Safety Measures in Apartments and Shopping Malls

  • June 13, 2011 2:24 am

This is the era of real estate boom. When everybody is seriously talking about development in all fields, no wonder if people choose to invest in property. When we hear about mushrooming builders fooling buyers and getting away easily, we must select them wisely. Facilities like handheld fire extinguishers are not in working condition in many buildings. Authorities should check the same periodically. Buyers should make sure that all the regulations for safety are strictly followed. Yes, when you pay your hard-earned money for something, you have the right to demand quality!

The Moment of Truth

Linda J. Bird

Image via Wikipedia

By nature, I am a passive person when it comes to confrontation. However, if I could go back in time and confront anyone, it would be my first college roommate. Linda, let’s call her, seemed nice enough on the first day of school. We had some things in common: our summer jobs in coffeehouses, love of pugs, and religious upbringings. She promised to take me out to college parties, somewhere I had never ventured before. I was open to the new experience, knowing I would need to buckle down once classes started. Linda, however, had other plans for us. Little did I know she was not as focused on academics as I was. She soon took away from my study time, going as far as to take some of my books from me and force me out of the dorms. Eventually, she grew bored of my antics, and moved on to new “party partners” while speaking ill about me behind my back. Rather than dealing with the ostracism directly, I avoided her and then asked her to move out of the room. All future involvement was done with a neutral party acting as an in-between. If I had the chance, I would go back and speak to Linda about her actions. We would discuss our feelings and try to work things out.

Careless Childhood

  • June 7, 2011 9:34 am

When I was much younger, I used be active in several physical afterschool activities: gymnastics and dance. I was indifferent about the dance, but tumbling and running in gymnastics was a freeing experience. I miss rubbing the chalk on my hands and taking to the mats in my leotard, prancing and flipping across the floor. I was so flexible back then. I miss being limber enough to do splits. My favorite gymnastic move was the cartwheel. Every now and again I break out the old move, taking care to carefully stretch before taking to the floor in the ways of old. It is so much fun to pretend I am back in my outfit, dancing across the floor with ease.

Yale University awarded the first doctorate in...

I have a little joke with my friends; As we cross the street, I yell “Be careful, I can’t die today! I have so much to do!” I have so many goals for my life, and fully intend to meet every last one. The biggest goal I have is to finish school and become a pharmacist. As a doctor of pharmacy, I will accomplish the meaning of my existence: helping others. By making others feel better, I accomplish my goal of helping others. I also have an idea of where I want my career to go throughout my lifetime. First, I will finish my doctorate degree. Armed with my white coat, I will get a job in a big city pharmacy and help scores of people every day. Part time, I will indulge my creative side as a writing teacher at my alma mater. Eventually, I will take over the writing program at the school as a stepping stone to my final goal: President of the University.
