For those of us who own a home where children live, I believe that it is important that a few precautions are taken to keep our kids safe. Parents need to teach home safety for kids. One of the first and most important things is to keep all sharp objects such as knifes and tools out of their reach. Another step that you can and need to take is keeping all chemicals and toxins stored properly in a safe place where your child cannot gain access to it. Putting locks on certain cabinets and cupboards is an easy way to do this. These are just a few of the things you can do to make your home a safer place.

Fire protection and the fake house for kids

I think more needs to be done when it comes to fire prevention for kids. When I was younger, I learned about fire prevention from fake house demonstrations that helped teach kids how to get out of a house when there’s a fire and what to do when there’s a fire in your house. We started out in bunk beds and pretended like we were sleeping. Suddenly, a fire alarm went off and we were supposed to use what the firemen taught us to get out of the area safely. I still remember this and it really was an effective way to teach kids about fire safety.

Financial Security

I don’t think I know one person in my inner circle who doesn’t want financial security. Some want even more than that. I would like to not have to worry about working to pay the next bill or have to try and be careful knowing I can’t afford basic health insurance. Financial security is something I believe a lot of people take for granted and sadly don’t even realize they are more secure than most people in society. I’ve seen money issues lead to worry lines in people’s foreheads. Avoiding that has been one of my main goals in life.

The Cross around My Neck

The cross around my neck does not necessarily hold meaning to me because of what it physically stands for. That may sound blasphemous to some people. It has more sentimental meaning to me because it was given to me by my father who has never been present in my life or given me much of anything. When I got a phone call one Christmas from him asking for my address, I checked the mail daily to see what letter or card or maybe even money could be arriving. Finally, it came. A gold pendant with my name engraved in it.

Swimming with Grandma

From as far as I can remember, going swimming in the backyard pool with Grandma is one of my most cherished memories. I learned how to swim there at the age of 2 and an announcement of going in the pool always gave me an exciting feeling. These were times that I could play and be silly and have conversations with my grandmother that I could not have with anyone else. These pool sessions became tradition for us and I would talk to her about any and everything in that pool. No inhibitions, just weightless and relaxed. Best memories ever.

In My Spare Time

Listening to music can take me far away and is something I really enjoy doing. I am a movie buff so when there is a good action, thriller or horror movie out, I am ready to see it. Going on road trips is always exciting and fun and also trying new places to eat is a favorite thing to do. I consider myself to be young at heart so gaming attractions; fairgrounds and amusement parks always rank highly among my list of things that I enjoy doing. A new hobby of mine is online games such as Bejeweled and Farmville.

At Least I ate Last Night

I was starving last night and really did not want to get up and cook. I thought about making myself a bowl of cereal, however, I didn’t see where that would get me. Then I remembered my friend made some Chicken Cordon Bleu; whatever that means. It looked a bit strange but I decided to warm it up and give it a shot. No time to be picky. The chicken looked like a little encrusted tubular type thing. I popped it in the microwave and took a bite. To my surprise it was awesome and seasoned to a golden perfection.

What Struggling Economy?

Although we are not in the same economic slump we were in as a country three years ago, you can still feel the hit in certain areas of life. Gas is so unstable I call is “see-saw” gas. Whatever happened to eight bucks filling up your tank? Long gone are those days. If you want milk, you may as well buy a cow; save yourself the trouble of paying four dollars a gallon. Because I can’t find a better job, I can’t afford health insurance. I’ve had to put that at the bottom of my needs list at this time.

A Stressful Day So Far

Today has been stressful. I can’t stand how my boss tries to pass the buck to everyone under him and disguise it as delegating or teaching us to work under pressure. In actuality, he is just lazy, inconsiderate and unprofessional. I’m worried about this raw chicken sitting in my office right now that is supposed to be for the office picnic. Who does he think will be eating this when surely it will be spoiled? This doesn’t even feel like an office today. It feels like a well decorated prison and I’m in the hole.
